The Question Everyone Asks

Custom costs a fortune.
It's about $300 more.

Compared with buying one of our ready-made rings, custom runs about $300 more. That covers the CAD renderings and your 3D model.

The stone and the metal cost what they cost either way. What changes is that the design is drawn around you, instead of chosen off a shelf.

How It Works

The Workshop Way

01
The Workshop Design Session

About an hour at 1544 South Street. We talk through what you're picturing, look at showroom settings and diamond samples, and you leave knowing what it costs and how long it takes. Bring the inspo board of rings you've been saving. Don't have one? No problem.

02
The First Look

About a week later, five to ten custom designs created from your vision with our design direction. You choose the direction from there. Most jewelers in the city charge $300 to $500 for this step.

03
The Rehearsal

A 3D rendering, then a printed model you can hold and see at scale. Check the proportion and the presence of it before anything is cast. This is the last point at which anything can change.

Before casting

The Build

Produced by specialist artisans working to Ben's design direction. Recycled precious metals, responsibly sourced stones, lab-grown or natural diamonds.

In Their Words

What clients say

★★★★★

Reuben is phenomenal!! We designed an engagement ring with him and he was patient, kind, and attentive to our interests. At no point did I feel he was pushing one option over another in his own interests.

Lincoln

★★★★★

Reuben custom designed my engagement ring and our wedding bands and they turned out exactly how we wanted! So unique and such a nice experience. His shop is beautiful, I end up buying something every time I’m in it.

Holly

★★★★★

My wife and I inherited heirloom wedding rings from our grandparents that we hoped to incorporate into our own, but didn't really know where to start. Ruben at Workshop Underground could not have been more helpful and great to work with.

Who Designs It

Ben Luna

Ben Luna has spent nearly two decades designing jewelry. Before opening Workshop in 2015, he led the product design team at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he created thousands of designs.

Now it's one studio on South Street, and eight custom clients a month.

After the Ring

The Workshop Warranty

The proposal is usually a surprise, which means the ring has never been sized on the actual hand. So the first year covers that, and the rest covers everything after.

One year

Full warranty on the ring and its workmanship.

A free resizing

One resizing in the first year, at no cost.

Free cleanings

Bring it in whenever, for as long as you own it.

Lifetime checks

Annual prong and setting inspection, also for life.

Custom work is final sale. No returns.

Everything you need to know

Custom engagement rings from $4,000

About $300 more, which covers the CAD renderings and your 3D model. The stone and the metal cost the same either way. What changes is that the design is drawn around you.
Four to six weeks from the day you approve the final design, plus about a week between the first session and seeing your designs. If you're working toward a date, say so at the session and we'll tell you honestly whether it fits.
Workshop is the design studio. Ben designs your ring and directs every stage of it, and the manufacturing is done by specialist artisans we work with — CAD technicians, bench jewelers and stone setters, each expert in their part of the process.
Yes, and most of what we make uses them. We also source responsibly certified natural stones and estate stones including old mine and old European cuts. All of our precious metals are certified recycled.
Whatever you've been saving. An inspo board, screenshots, a photo of a family ring. Most people arrive with something and it makes the first set of designs much sharper. If you have nothing, that's genuinely fine too.
That's common and it isn't a problem. Working out what you want is the first half of the job, and it's our half. You'll see five to ten directions before you have to decide anything.
Because that's how many Ben can design for properly while running the studio. It's a real cap, not a marketing number, and it resets on the first.
